Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation is a program paid for by Caregiver Connections. This program works closely with the local Child Care and Referral (CC&R) to provide support and training to child care providers in the John A. Logan child care district. The early childhood mental health consultation service is a relationship-based, strength-based, and mental health promotion program.
The program strives to work collaboratively with the child care providers to:
- Support their positive and effective relationships with children and families
- Strengthen their professional capacity and competencies
- Increase their knowledge regarding children’s social-emotional needs and development
- Provide information on available resources
The program offers opportunities for collegial networking among child care provider to:
- support their work
- reduce isolation
- foster community building
- share information and resources
- engage in learning and problem-solving
The mental health consultation incorporates prevention strategies into the model and works at identifying children at-risk for developmental delays and/or for social-emotional, and mental health problems. The consultant provides resource and referral information to providers and families, and assists with referral to appropriate agencies and services.
