Substance Abuse Prevention is about reducting the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs among students ages 10-17 years old. Our prevention team works primarily in two areas to help decrease the impact of substance abuse among teens. First, we provide life skills eduction via the "LionsQuest Skills for Adolescence" curriculum to middle school students with 14 weekly sessions to students in the first year and 12 booster sessions to students in following years.
We also implement a communications campaign tageted towards parents of teens reminding them that they are primary influencers regarding kids' decisions to drink or use drugs. We also offer tips on talking with kids about drugs and alcohol as well as developmental asset building strategies.
The program also works alongside various coalitions who are geared toward child development, community improvement, or substance abuse prevention issues.
